Winter Gift Bags
As the temperatures drop and Christmas approaches, we want to help our friends on the street prepare for the season. This winter, we will be distributing winter gift bags to women experiencing homelessness in New York City and Washington, DC. These gift bags will contain winter necessities such as socks, hand warmers, and lotion as well as a small gift and a note of encouragement.
We need your help! We are looking for partners to help us write notes of encouragement for the women who will receive the winter gift bags. Notes can be handwritten or electronic. Guidelines, a sample note, and information on where to send your notes can be found further down the page!
You can also help us to fill the gift bags. Check out our Winter Gift Bag wish list on Amazon – items purchased can be shipped directly to Restore Hope. Financial donations to purchase items are also appreciated!
If you live in New York City or Washington, DC, we would love to have you join us to help distribute the completed gift bags. If you are interested in joining us for this, please sign up on our Volunteer page or send an email to info@restorehopeforwomen.org.
Notes of encouragement do not have to be long. For your safety, please do not include any personal information such as your full name (first name is fine!), address, email, or phone number. Please make the note generic, not Christmas-oriented as some bags may be distributed after the holiday. Below is a sample note of encouragement.
Hi friend, my name is Kathryn. I want you to know that no matter where you are, you are seen and loved. You are precious, beautiful, strong, and brave. You have made it this far, don’t stop now! I am praying that you would have peace and hope for a bright future. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
We ask that all notes be submitted by Wednesday, December 16th. Electronic notes may be submitted via email to info@restorehopeforwomen.org. If sending handwritten notes, please address them to Restore Hope c/o Kathryn Morris, 1230 Independence Ave SE Apt B, Washington, DC 20003.
